Sidmouth is a  pretty regency town with a gentle pace of life, interesting shops, beautiful parks and gardens, a great location and special charm of its own. Queen Victoria sent her children here on holiday. The place they stayed at is now a hotel.

How to get to Sidmouth: The easiest way is by car.  From the North or West leave the M5 at junction 30 and follow the A5032 for 12 miles before turning off to Sidmouth. From the East down the A30, turn off one junction after the Honiton turnoff, sign posted Sidmouth this will avoid going though Honiton town centre.

There are buses from Exeter bus station (near Exeter Central train station) every half hour number 52/52A/52B. There are also a few connecting services from Honiton train station number 340 but check first !

Trains: These were discontinued after the Beeching axe in 1966. Nearest station is Feniton (formally Sidmouth Junction). This is 8 miles away and makes a pleasant cycle ride but not for the faint hearted.

Best walks:

1) My favourite is the Glen Goyle footpath. Often missed by visitors. It starts near the cricket ground and does not really go anyway but still quite pleasant following the path of a stream.

2) Footpath to Sidford though the Byes.

3) The footpath from the Bowd Inn to Tipton St. John along a disused railway line.

4) Coastal paths.
